Why People Fear Change?

Do people really fear change? Why do they fear change? Do they fear change itself or there are greater factors which they fear? Whatever answer you provide to these questions, one thing is certain: change is seldom well accepted.  As a leader, change is in integral part of the organization which mostly has to be administrated by you.

You can do this by exploring the reason why people fear change. People do not fear change, they fear what comes with the change. Change at most times means uncertainty, bringing a new business partner into the equation also brings uncertainty into play. The uncertainty of things, whether an employee still has their job or not is what people really fear, not the change itself. Should you eliminate the uncertainty factor, most people are likely to welcome or accept the change without any interruption in the production process.

People do not fear change, they fear what the change means for them. Like it or not, everyone is self-serving. If the change is serving them positively, most people will gladly accept it or even enforce it. An employee who is moving up the ranks will definitely be cheering for the change to be made. Should you clarify what the change means to each employee individually, the fear factor will subside.

Then some people fear change simply because change moves them off their comfort zones. As a leader, enforce change for this reason, nothing grows out of comfort zones. Let the members of the organization be unsettled to move out of comfort zones into works zones. People do not fear change, they merely fear what change comes with.
