5 Factors to Consider When Starting a Business.

Whenever I get a chance to exchange ideas with other people on business, I grab it with both hands. In these exchanges, of late, I have realized a trend in terms of how people think about starting a business and are passionate about business. These people have the passion for business and the desire to start a business, but they have no idea what business they want to start and how to actually go about it. They are just passionate about business.

I think we can all relate to this. I mean a lot of people who have businesses today have always known that they would like to get into the business space. Actually, you might be reading this and you are still thinking of going into business. So maybe more focus should be placed on idea generation and how to go about starting a business. Here are 5 factors to pay attention to when looking to start a business:

  1. Passion

Entrepreneurship or being your own boss is attractive because it offers you complete control over what you do. However, in the absence of passion you are likely not to enjoy your business. Entrepreneurship is more about the journey more than the destination, so in order to enjoy the journey; make sure you are passionate about what your business does.

  1. Start-up Capital

Unless you come from a well-off family, came across some fortune or have a power idea; you are likely to have very little capital to no capital at all. So the kind of business you venture into will be possible or not depending on the amount of capital you have.  Some businesses are easy to start because they require less capital or you might have to start small and scale up. Businesses that require skill are often easier to start because they do not require much capital to start.

  1. Scale

The scale of the business is worth considering because that will determine the resources you need, to get it off the ground. Some businesses are not easy to scale down; they by nature require a lot to function. If you do not have the capital, you might have to park that business idea and focus on another one for now.

  1. Solve a problem

This probably should have been on the top. Anyway, businesses exist to solve a problem –to provide a solution that someone is willing and able to pay for. If the business is not solving a problem, that means there is not demand and ultimately no business. The business does not determine what the business should offer, the market does. The market controls the demand. If they don’t demand something they will not pay for it.

  1. Make money

The all-time definition of an entrepreneur is that an entrepreneur is someone who starts a business in order to make profit. With that said, if the business is not making money then there is no business. Despite what you as the entrepreneur might have thought, if there is not profit for the longest of time or you are not even breaking even, then you should consider refining the idea or finding another business.

There are definitely many other factors that could be included on the above list, but for the purpose of this article we will stick to those. Good luck with your entrepreneurial journey.
